Update on Fosters, Birdeye

Wednesday, May 29, 2013

This beautiful lady is Tripod and is up for adoption.  She was an
excellent mother.  She'll get her leg amputated soon and spayed
and then will be ready for a forever home.  She was abandoned with
her four babies in April in Earle.  She has an old injury in her right front
paw.  She's ideal as an inside cat.  She's independent and
doesn't require a lot of attention (thank God).  Her babies all have homes thankfully!
Lucky has been with us now for 3 weeks.  She came to us with the sarcoptic
mange, tons of fleas and was skinny...now her hair is back and she's fat and
sassy.  She's a wonderful, loyal dog who's learned to not jump up on anyone and
Chloe's starting the leash training.  Her personality is submissive and loyal.
She doesn't dig up the yard or bark a bunch either. She's great with
children and cats.  I love her but we can't keep the fosters!

This is Tuesday...she was abandoned at the Birdeye Store
last summer.  What a life!!  She lives in New England was adopted
from PAWS of Marion to a group up there
Tuesday looks like a full blooded lab here....she was a chicken
murderer (she killed one of my favorite, brown
egg layers last summer).  Who can tell that this
beautiful lady was a chicken killer? :)
Chance was brought into the clinic during the Christmas
Break after being rescued off I-55 in Marion.  He looks
like he's made himself at home in the northeast....

Thought I'd post some dog photos that have come in.  I haven't heard from Pointer that went to Maine last summer.  Junior is in West Memphis, Dixie's in Wynne and the kittens are all over Cross County.  Spay and neuter people! :)

High School Reunion, Birdeye

At the Memphis Farmer's Market Saturday
Me, Lori, Angelia and Leslie
Sunday, I took the ladies on a tour of Kara's house,
Harmon and Jeanie's farm where we all enjoyed the
turkeys and miniature horses and donkeys, and
tour of Wynne including our presbyterian church.
Angelia took this photo of one of Harmon's miniature donkeys

Saturday on the way to the farmer's market, we stopped at
Twist to see the monument where B.B. King named his
famous guitar Lucille.

The donkeys are so sweet, they like to be petted like dogs!

I was thrilled when some of my neighborhood friends from 5th grade came to Birdeye for a girls weekend. Lori Leiser Manning, Leslie Johnson Williams and Angelia Pope Johnston and I have been friends since 5th grade when we were at Northighlands.  We also cheered together 8th-12th grades and graduated from John Marshall together in 1989.  Lori and Lance Manning have three children grades K-5, Leslie and Bart Williams have two in grades 1st and 4th and Angelia Pope Johnston have two, Reagan will be a senior this year and Bryce is in 7th like Chloe.  We had a great time looking at junior and high school yearbooks, going through Angelia's notes from junior to high school and catching up on classmates.  Saturday, I took them to the Memphis Farmer's Market downtown, Central BBQ, the Loraine Hotel, Graceland, Saddle Creek Shops and Beale Street.  Beale was hopping as the Sunset Symphony was going on and the Grizzles were playing at FedEx Forum.  I think there were about a million people on Beale.  It was a great time catching up and being together.  I think they were most surprised at our chickens, homemade pickles, garden and huge yard.  Angelia wants to have some urban chickens :).  I hope it'll be an annual trip for them!

May, is our birthday month and supposed to be easy but...

Yep, we rode again with Tyler last Sunday.  He's always
willing to take us on a trail ride.

This young palomino is a biter.  He stood in the corner by the
waterer and was biting fellow horses across....that's a stinker I say!

I got his nose while trying to get a shot of his handsomeness

Chloe's a good horseman...she's looking for traffic
(She's on Otis who I rode the last time)

Here's Blue all perky cause we're about to take off

Tyler rode Nine and took along his roping horse as a pony
horse for exercise....

Chloe
I held his roping horse while Tyler calmed down Nine who
was in heat and bucked like all get out with his "pony"
horse all next to her.  He rode her around to let her relax
and it worked beautifully.

This is almost to Kara and Martin's house.  Yep, she's
holding onto that horn but Tyler's got her steering with
the left hand in case she ever wants to rope.

For Chloe and I's birthday, Jackie got us a camera.  This
is one Chloe took of Gumball.  He drives me nuts. Nuts.

Another Chloe shot

For Chloe's third birthday celebration, she had her BFF
Bailey Bigger spend the night and I took them out to see
Memaw and Grandad's farm...I let Chloe drive half way up the
gravel road while Bailey drove Memaw's tractor, what a thrill!
And my mother came from Little Rock after Saturday's bike
ride for a 4th party and a delicious Baskin Robbins ice cream
cake and presents, it made for a great Saturday!

Here's Bailey driving with Memaw, she loved it!
Here's her second party with Whit and Stella.  They couldn't
come to the first one on her birthday because August had
a baseball game.

Chloe's handy photography

Anyone know what might be in that?  Chloe loves photography
Hornet? Bugs? Termites??? :)

Bailey holding one of a dozen rabbits....

He's cute or is it a she?

Grandad got some turkeys and those jokers got big. Here
they are strutting.  If they hear voices they go to town
gobbling, it's hilarious and I told Memaw that it should
be her ringtone...:)

She said this joker is the only turkey that
attacks Grandad.  No one knows why!:)

Chloe made a movie of it with her IPad

That's Cutie, a pony Chloe used to ride

Here they are with Rosie.  She looks beautiful.
We plan to go over there on Wednesdays and
ride her and Sonyador.

Another photo from Chloe of Dr. Calico

Good Wednesday morning!  After the wind and thunderstorms
last night, one of Winnie Bob's Red Bud Trees went down.
Luckily, I had already asked Memaw to help me cut some stuff back
in the yard today but we had to handle this first.  She and I
worked for about an hour splitting up the tree and dragging it.
A HUGE shout out to Memaw who has helped us with our yard.
It's overwhelming...she and I always joke about looking at it
like grooming a matted dog, one leg at a time.
I couldn't do this yard without her. period.
That's Fred with his chain saw...you can see we split it in two
by chaining it with the truck...

Luckily, Fred and Tyler saw us when they let the horses out
and they generously came over with a chain saw and tractor
and helped get the big piece that we struggled with all
morning.  They cut it and Tyler hauled it off in about 4 loads.

This photo shows how far Memaw and I got with it,
I know, I wish I had a before shot but...we couldn't get her over
the brick that goes down the driveway but the cut it and
got it hauled off in more than half the time it would have
taken us.  I give them a shout out and I plan to take a poundcake
over there tonight!

Here's last Saturday's riders...Mark Pierce, Becca, Kyle, Jackie,
Neall, Jimmy, Kara, John David (on his first time with his
new, awesome Specialized Aliez bike) and Cecelia
Chloe's delicious cake by Cathy Helton
(first birthday party! :))
Here we are at JB's for Emily and Danny's farewell dinner.
We had a great time and in there, I caught my sinus
infection!! Probably not but my goodness I couldn't
stop sneezing!!

Yep I know.  I haven't cooked all month have I?  Well in actuality it's been an incredibly busy month.  And Monday's tornado in my hometown of Oklahoma City was unbelievable.  There were tornadoes Sunday in Shawnee and in Edmond where mom and Gary live. Thankfully, none of my family or friends have had to deal with either Sunday or Monday's tragedies.  I am so sad but I'm thankful that most Oklahomans know where to get if there's a tornado warming.  We were under a watch here Tuesday and it didn't phase me until Grandad asked me at the clinic late that afternoon who was picking up the kids.  I was but didn't think I needed to be in a hurry.  He said that parents of those children lost in the school Monday had wished they'd picked up early. I got them safely, it was a downpour with lots of lightning and we had a tree go down this morning.  We got only 1.6 inches of rain but the ground was soggy all morning.

We've been busy because it was my mom's birthday on the 8th, a going away party for the Neller's, Mother's Day in there (with my huge sinus infection), Chloe's week of parties, a bike ride last Saturday and throw in that we have termites and lost a huge tree after all of last nights' wind, means it's been busy!  So I have not been neglecting the kitchen, just ask Jackie and Chloe, but it's been a little overwhelming.  I'm supposed to host several high school good friends over the weekend with a Graceland trip, I can't wait.  Kara's hosting our annual Memorial Day bike ride and cookout Monday then we plan on gittin in that club pool.  The Gearhead Tri is less than a month away people!  I gotta get some swimming in (even tho I'm the worst swimmer ever.ever, I mean ever).

Sunday, May 4, 2013

I am just back from a refreshing trip with one of my best friends Leigh Anne Cloud Haugh.  She needed a weekend away from mega town Dallas and luckily she invited me to split the weekend because I too needed a girls weekend.  Plus, it was my birthday weekend...and I never hesitate to celebrate being above ground.  The last time she and I went on a girls weekend was to Chicago in 2009 when we both decided I needed to color my gray roots and paint my toenails black.  While in CHICAGO that trip, I got to witness a purchase of Jimmy Choo's in a Jimmy Choo store (not a department store).  It was exceptional to say the least.  This year, it was all catching up being poolside and having some delicious food and good times.  A big thank you to Leigh Anne for coming up with the trip and looking forward to it and then getting to enjoy it.

I really loved the Sand and Surf resort.  It was ocean side, a boutique style hotel but open to the outdoors.  They served us a fine poolside lunch, great breakfast and poolside treats.  It is a low key hotel and totally worth checking into if you are headed to this side of LA.  And is not crazy expensive at all.

I can't explain blogger in the uploading sequence of photos...dang it.
Okay people, TRIPOD is ready for a home...that there
right leg will have to go so an inside home is preferable.
I love her, love her but don't have room for her....

Ahh the Sand and Surf Resort...pure heaven...I didn't
take but 2 photos during the weekend...this one is on
the way to the Orange County airport

It's so refreshing to come home to a garden that boasts
asparagus...it's so stinking delicious fresh out of the garden...

Lucky and all her preciousness is in my heart already.  She
is just that awesome....another 3 weeks and she'll have some
hair I hope...SHE NEEDS A HOME :)

Winnie Bob left me such a legacy in the yard...here are the
azaleas Larry Lowman planted 20 years ago

Oh lala if only the broccoli will come on up...

My word the blooms on my strawberry plants
are so numerous this year

Here are the zucchini plants that came up from seed

It's official...I've had to start policing the ladies...these hungry
hippos show up at the dog food bowl in the carport to look
for kibble and to nearly lick (or peck) the bowls clean...
they act desperate but as you can see they are well fed

Yep there in the center is a bee that finally died.  I am SO
ALARMED by the dead bees in the yard this year.  I have
some every year but I think this is a critical year.  Is
it just the pesticides in the surrounding fields or what?

Chloe cracks me up
Can you believe this picture taker
only got this photo of us all weekend?
I guess it's because of all the lounging
we did...it was a totally relaxing weekend

My welcome back to town is this
mangy dog that I named Lucky.
She's about 10 weeks with a
wonderful quality about her.  When
she scratches herself, she whines
almost uncontrollably.  She's super, duper
sweet....I think she'll look a lot better after
3 mange baths.  And THEN Chloe can get
her hands on her to start the leash
training.... Shame on the person that
abandoned her in the country.
She got her first dip today.
She's a keeper I tell you!
(NO, we are NOT keeping her!! :))
Jackie texted this photo to me...it says Ft. Smith...1) eating
candy without chloe's permission is illegal 2) any fights will
get you exiled 3) sing the national anthem at every meal and
below is Breaking a law, you will be fined $5, Any bad words are
fined $5, Refusing to do Chloe's word is $10 and if you
refuse to do something you will have a debt if you do not
pay by due date, you will be referred to mom and Ft. Smith
is not responsible for any injuries.  And she didn't invite East
Birdeye to come over....good lord!

Leigh Anne and I had a delicious
breakfast at the hotel and took this
shot and sent it to Jackie to remind
him that we would be watching the race
from Orange County :)
